Marianne and Howard -

Congratulations on the well-deserved publicity in the Urbanite. Great article! http://www.urbanitebaltimore.com/sub.cfm?issueID=76§ionID=4&articleID=1316

Though I can't make it to your opening concert (I'm volunteering that day/evening at the Canton Wine Festival), I am promoting your event on my website Calendar of Events. I am sure it will be a success, as always.

What a perfect way to spend my birthday: gracious hosts, inspired musicians, delectable house-made dinner and sumptuous birthday cake (since it was your birthday, too). Marianne and Howard, the fact that you open your home to strangers in support of local musicians is both astounding and marvelous. Keep up the worthy efforts, and know that I will continue to support and promote your intimate, exceptional venue. My sincere thanks for a brilliant evening!

Oh what a special treat we enjoyed tonight- Shelia Jordan’s “Voice and Bass”, with the smooth Cameron Brown, was so warm and entertaining, funny and sharp, covering so many classics with wit and charm. Quite the show-woman, Shelia sings and improvises like no other-it was a moving performance to behold and witness a true piece of jazz history. Shelia helps us to imagine those early days with Charlie Parker and the band. With great respect she honors jazz history and tradition, especially of those greats that passed way too soon. Her message to emerging musicians is to persevere and, “never, never, never give up”, as she has done.

A special guest duet with Jay Clayton added a sassy musical repartee and loving combination as each imitated and complimented the other. Likewise, a cameo by Todd Marcus on Clarinet added another fine dimension to the delightful evening soiree.

Where else can you have such an intimate atmosphere and be so up close and personal with the artists. The gourmet diner and desserts completed a perfect evening. Kudos to Marianne and Howard for making this all possible.

We had our first experience at Jazzway 5004 this past Friday evening. Wow! What a wonderful experience. Howard was a most gracious host and made us feel very welcome. I've been getting your email via DC Jazz. I wish I could learn more about your venue, as I too am a jazz singer. I am a huge fan of Jay Clayton and Sheila's and Cameron played and recorded with me many years ago. I'm hoping to come hear one of my friends and take a workshop someday soon. The most important question is, are you handicap accessible? Thanks for supporting jazz. LISA RICH

Dear Marianne & Howard,
Thank you so much for having us at Jazzway 6004. It was indeed a pleasure to perform for such a wonderfully warm audience in such an absolutely "hip" venue. Very importantly, I'd like to thank you as well, for presenting jazz in the manner befitting to the art form... intimately, with elegance, style, and grace. Your hospitality goes unrivaled! All the best to you both in your future endeavors...

December 21, 2008

My wife and I went to our first show at Jazzway last night where we saw Tim Warfield, Nicholas Payton and Joanna Pascale. The jazz, food and people were great but the most amazing thing was the venue. Where can you see the jazz talent of this caliber, literally eat dinner with them and then have them perform for you in your living room. This was absolutely amazing! I am still blown away by all this. Just absolutely amazing! We can't wait until next month.

Larry Love

December 20, 2008

Perhaps Baltimore's best kept secret, once again Jazzway treated us to a delightful holiday performance and this time with nationally acclaimed artists. Even Miles and Coltrane would be proud of the way that Nicholas Payton and Tim Warfield delivered tonight. This band was in sync with vocalist Joanna Pascale, for a truely memorable night.
With top quality music, gourmet food and the warm personal venue what more could you ask for. Kudos to Marianne, Howard B and the volunteers- just outstanding.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Susan Jones Quartet and the great Jazzway 6004 venue. We were amazed at how well Marianne fit in with the Quartet on her vocal set. As first-timers we were made to feel very comfortable by Howard and Marianne. We especially liked the visits by Bessie as she made her rounds. The dinner was terrific and exceeded our expectations. Thanks for a great evening.

October 20, 2008

The concert on Oct 17,2008 was outstanding. Marianne's voice is amazing and the jazz muicians were wonderful. I am not sure whether Marianne should devote herself to singing or cooking since the food was as "4 star" as the music. Howard and Marianne are gracious hosts and adorable Betsy was the perfect additional group member.

Sue Carlin

October 18, 2008

What am amazing experience at the Craig Alston concert on Jan 26th! This was my first time at a house concert. There is no comparison to attending a commercial concert. This venue was like visiting friends at a social event! People were friendly and very attentive to the performances. Thank you Howard and Marianne for opening your beautiful home for these events.
About the music - unbelievable - it was top quality! The talent of all the musicians was excellent! I really don't have enough adjectives to describe how good they were!

I can't tell you how much I enjoyed the "last concert" of the Park House Jam on December 15th! Like Howard says, you should plan a "last concert" every 6 months! Marianne, the food was delicious! I don't know how you do it. Howard, you are such a gracious host. I feel like family (although your family won't tell me how to get to the parking lot in front!). Wishing you a healthy and joyful 2008!

All I can say is "WOW!" When you come to a concert you expect the performers, singers and musicians, to be top rate. That expectation was certainly satisfied. The unexpected piece was the venue. Intimate, warm, welcoming barely begins the list of adjectives that describe the house and especially the host and hostess. My first time there, and I felt like I was visiting with life long friends. My wife and I actually only knew the people we came with, but we quickly met other interesting and engaging people. We knew there was going to be food and we weren't expecting a culinary masterpiece, but it was pretty darn close. All in all, we had a marvelous time and would certainly recommend it to all our friends. Best of luck to Howard and Marianne, and thank you for bringing this idea and venue to life. There's nothing commercial about a concert at 6004!
